Unlike the Sinnoh Stone, however, the Unova Stone won’t be used to evolve Pokémon from previous generations. Instead, it will be used to complete many of those introduced in Gen 5. The Unova Stone is one of many special evolution items in Pokémon Go, including the King’s Rock for Slowking and Politoed, the Metal Coat for Steelix and Scizor, the Up-Grade for Porygon 2 and the Dragon Scale for Kingdra. On this page: Similar to the Sinnoh Stone, it is possible (but not guaranteed) to receive a Unova Stone by:
Collecting your seventh day Field Research reward Defeat a Team Go Rocket Leader Defeating Giovanni
It is possible more Unova Stone sources will be rolled out over time - Sinnoh Stone can also be found by defeating fellow trainers in PVP Trainer Battles, for example.
Until then, completing those seven day Field Research rewards is the way to source those Unova Stones.
The Season of Mythical Wishes continues with the Winter Holiday event, which has brought Mega Glalie to Pokémon Go. Don’t forget to partake in the new Go Battle League season.
Elsewhere, be sure to use Daily Adventure Incense for the chance of encountering Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos and Galarian Moltres.
Here are the current available uses of a Unova Stone in Pokémon Go:
Other Stone-based evolutions - such as Gen 5’s Cottonee and Petilil - have been confirmed to use a Sun Stone.
