You can also use them to gather resources, like wood, to help build structures on the Fortnite map. What is a melee weapon in Fortnite?
There are currently two melee weapons in Fortnite - your harvesting tool, also known as the pickaxe, and the Shockwave Hammer.
The easiest melee weapon to use is, of course, your harvesting tool, because you automatically start every match with this weapon. Simply select your favourite from your Locker and away you go!
If you wish to wield the power of a Shockwave Hammer, you will need to find them in loot chests. The white Oathbound chests have a better chance at dropping them as groundloot. Here’s a map from meetlootllama on Reddit showing where all Oathbound Chests can potentially spawn in Fortnite:
In addition to being found as ground loot, you can also purchase Shockwave Hammers from Omega Knight. Head to our Fortnite character locations guide to track him down. Lastly, the Ageless Champion boss will drop a Legendary version of the hammer, which has five charges instead of four.
