Once combined with the Medic class, the Assault class now stands alone with more of a standard, close-to-mid-range playstyle which aims to be as flexible as possible. It’s a backbone-of-the-army, ready for anything class, and should be the go-to for Battlefield beginners in particular who are looking to adjust to the game. As you’ve probably guessed, we’ll be looking at the Assault class in depth here, but once you’re done be sure to also check out our guides for the Medic class, Support class, Scout class and specialist Pilot, Tanker and Cavalry classes, too. That being said, one situation in which you’ll struggle whilst playing the Assault class is at range. Unlike their Light Machine Gun cousins, which get increasingly accurate as you fire, SMGs quickly degenerate into a wide spray the longer you fire. With that in mind, you’ll want to focus on getting up-close with enemies when playing Assault. We found it functions exceptionally well as an anti-sniper class - if you can find a safe route through cover, the Assault’s primary weapons make short work of the clustered, unprepared snipers you’ll find on Battlefield 1’s larger maps. Likewise, it’s great for the claustrophobic alleyways and buildings you’ll find on maps like Amiens, for example. It’s also the go-to anti-vehicle class, for obvious reasons. If you’re having trouble with a six-man Heavy Tank sitting on a control point, for instance, then planting some Dynamite or AT Mines in it’s path, or simply slugging it with an AT Rocket Gun, will do wonders.
