In November 2020, Borderlands and Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two agreed on a near-$1bn pricetag to snap up racing giant Codemasters. But in December, EA swooped in with a $1.2bn offer, which was accepted by the Codemasters board. EA’s offer is all-cash, valuing Codies at £6.04 for each ordinary share. Now, Take-Two has officially walked away, but insisted it’s still on the hunt for game developers. “Take-Two remains a highly disciplined organisation and, with its strong balance sheet, will continue to pursue selectively organic and inorganic opportunities that are designed to enhance the company’s long-term growth and deliver results to its shareholders,” Take-Two said in a statement....

Writing for the first time in nearly two years via the official Team Fortress 2 account, Valve said it had heard fans and promised action - although did not specify anything more concrete than that. “TF2 community, we hear you!” Valve wrote. “We love this game and know you do, too. We see how large this issue has become and are working to improve things.” Well, it’s a start. ORIGINAL STORY 26/5/22: The Team Fortress 2 community is today aiming to get its voice heard by staging a “peaceful protest” designed to raise awareness of the state of the game....

“I’m getting a lot of dm’s about Dying Light acquisition so I’ll answer here,” tweeted Techland’s community manager, “Uncy”, responding to recent speculation that the company had been acquired by another publisher. “There was the same rumour floating around the internet one year ago and the situation didn’t change - Techland is an independent studio and it was not acquired by another publisher.” When fans pushed back, insisting Techland would likely deny an acquisition right up until it had gone through, Uncy added in a separate comment: “People will believe what they want to believe, we had the exact same situation one year ago and people kept saying that the statements must be fake and the acquisition is happening....

The “sequel sized” final expansion for the hugely popular roguelike hits PC via Steam then, with consoles to follow later. The announcement was made via a new trailer, below, which is packed “with nods to the past, present and future”, McMillen teased in a post on Steam. On Twitter, McMillen answered some questions about this hotly-anticipated expansion, saying Repentance “will expand the game greatly, adding tons of new bosses, floors, alt paths, items, story elements, challenges and a few amazing characters”....

In a Polygon interview with the game’s creative director, Patrick Plourde, he explained that the game came about because he wanted to play something with his son. The character of Igniculus, therefore, was meant to be played by a second player. Since this was a game created with a child and a parent in mind, it easily explains the simple skill trees, the fairy-tale story, and the ease of the combat system....

The indie horror - which has been a huge hit since it launched at the beginning of August - was reportedly plucked for an adaptation before the full game released earlier this month. Director Jeremiah Kipp says the film will be a “companion piece” to the game, and Kipp hopes to “retain the minimalist setting in and around the mortuary, the fascination with the process of embalming, and the nerve-shredding terror of the gameplay”....

A tease of something new for Pokémon Sword and Shield seems unlikely at this point to be anything huge, with fan attention now firmly on Arceus....

“The wait is almost over and [Supermassive Games is] so excited for you to get your hands on The Quarry,” the developer tweeted, while bringing its community’s attention to the game’s release date of 10th June. “However, we’ve made the difficult decision to delay the online multiplayer.” Supermassive states the reason for this delay is to ensure that it delivers “the best possible experience” to players on its eventual release....

We finally have a release date for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s long-awaited PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S update, which will arrive on Wednesday 14th December. Developer CD Projekt Red had previously pledged to release the update this year, following various delays amidst its Cyberpunk 2077 launch kerfuffle, and a switch to development in-house from Saber Interactive....

The game’s final 72 cards will release next year in three expansions, set to launch in April, July and September 2023. After this time, CD Projekt will transition from its own monthly balance changes to a system voted on by players. Dubbed as “Project Gwenfinity”, the idea is that Gwent can be left to just a skeleton crew within CD Projekt to keep an eye on, while the game’s community decides on tweaks to exisiting cards to keep up with the current meta....

I put the mod through its paces in this week’s episode of VR Corner (below) and was staggered by how well it ran. Earlier today, The Pokémon Company released a new trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that included around 14 minutes of gameplay. But at around the 7.17 mark, just as one trainer enters the town of Artazon, a number of new ‘mon can be seen on the minimap at the bottom right of the screen. In terms of its tech, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands has a few extra twists. Unlike the open-world roaming in mainline Borderlands, here we navigate between key areas using a table-top style world map. It’s oddly akin to an old-school JRPG world maps as you guide a super-deformed version of your character between missions. A few tricks in the Unreal engine suite help sell the idea, too: a heavy depth of field creates a lovely tilt shift photography effect - another reminder that you’re a tiny figurine on a table-top....

Previously, streamers who reach Partner status on the platform were tied to only livestreaming on Twitch. Now Twitch Partners are also able to stream on rival platforms like YouTube and Facebook too, although simulcasting is not allowed there.
