Elden Ring officially releases this Friday, 25th February, in Europe, but, depending on your location and platform, you might just get to play it a little earlier. Here in the UK, for instance, PC players will be able to start their Elden Ring journey at 11pm on Thursday, 24th February - those that pre-order can pre-loaded the game 48hrs ahead of release for an on-the-dot start (not that I’d ever usually condone pre-ordering but, you know, Elden Ring)....

As first reported by Windows Central, Atlus has circulated a consumer survey to players asking a whole slew of questions about their gaming preferences. While not unusual in and of itself - it’s an annual survey, after all - question 38 has Persona fans cautiously optimistic that mainline entries of the franchise may finally make their way to Xbox. “If a sequel (numbered entry) in the following game series was to be released, what platform would you want to play it on?...

It’s a similar deal with No Man’s Sky, UploadVR reports. It means if you buy the PS5 versions of Hitman 3 or No Man’s Sky, you don’t get access to either game’s PSVR support in the PS4 versions. This is because PSVR works as a backwards compatible device. Sony told UploadVR it has yet to announce PS5 titles for PSVR. The PS4 versions of Hitman 3 and No Man’s Sky include a free next-generation upgrade if you play on PS5, so you’ll be able to play the enhanced versions when not playing in VR....

The trailer also includes a hidden URL (scribbled on a piece of card visible at the 1:24 mark) which leads to a mock US military website full of extra lore details on House of Ashes’ story. The only downside to that trailer? A big ol’ advert for the game’s “Pazuzu Edition” comes right at the end, showing a highly-detailed figurine of the game’s monster. The creature is something trailers have so far only teased, and while this isn’t the first time this advert has been shown, it’s still jarring to see it plonked at the end....

This is due to “region-hopping” - a tactic used by those seeking to take advantage of lower prices in other countries, as publishers adjust the price of games in each region based on median incomes. The trouble with this is it means customers from richer economies can also loophole themselves into grabbing a game for significantly cheaper than their own local pricing. This can dent the revenues of developers and publishers, especially those on the smaller side - but can also sometimes help....

Modder Ultraboy has created the mod (available on Tekken Mods) that replaces various Tekken characters for new Elden Ring models. For instance, Melina replaces Iidia, Malenia replaces Kunimitsu, and Ranni the Witch replaces Kazumi, as well as other bosses and player characters. And it gets weirder: Heihachi is replaced by a random lobster, Gigas is replaced by potboy (or Alexander the Living Jar to use his proper name), and Kazumi’s tiger is now Torrent the spectral steed....

Yesterday it emerged that Konami had announced plans to dissolve its three production divisions “to respond to the rapid market that surrounds us”. The announcement, made on Konami’s corporate website, also revealed a personnel reshuffle that sees production division bosses in new roles. This news was reported by some outlets as evidence that Konami was ditching video game development, but representatives for the company have since insisted this is not the case....

Drawing on over two decades of releases, Mario Party Superstars features five boards taken from the series’ N64 era - Yoshi’s Tropical Island, Space Land, Peach’s Birthday Cake, Woody Woods, and Horror Land - all redesigned for Switch and featuring their own unique events, while its minigames have been selected from all across previous Mario Party instalments. Nintendo’s newly released Mario Party Superstars overview trailer, which you can see below, highlights a small handful of minigames, including Face-Lift, Hot Rope Jump, Pushy Penguins, and Goomba Spotting....

The mod, uploaded earlier this week, replaces usual protagonist Kiryu Kazuma with Halo’s poster boy Master Chief. Specifically his incarnation in Halo 3. Kashiiera is primarily a Halo modder as it’s their favourite franchise, but they also love Yakuza and so worked hard to project Master Chief’s model correctly onto Kiryu’s to keep him looking as natural as possible. Kashiiera has posted plenty of gameplay footage which shows off the Spartan mastering Kiryu’s different fighting styles....

There’s an updated weather system, “early access to DX12” and a dev mode replay system, Microsoft said, plus new sightseeing missions and tutorials. Five new planes, including a couple we’ve heard about before, will be added. These include the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, Volocity, Pilatus PC-6 Porter, CubCrafters NX Cub and Aviat Pitts Special S1S. Eight handcrafted German, Swiss and US airports are being added, too. The news, as reported by The Verge, has emerged due to filings from the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in Microsoft’s ongoing $68.7bn buyout of Activision Blizzard. Both the popularity of Activision’s mobile games and the inclusion of King are major factors in Microsoft’s buyout as it looks to expand the Xbox brand further into mobile gaming. This will include a review into allegations against senior leaders, including Bill Gates who stepped down from the Microsoft Board in 2020. A thorough and transparent report is expected in the spring of 2022 for employees, shareholders and the public. The news of the review was released last week, but the timing is intriguing in the wake of Microsoft’s $70bn acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which is embroiled in an ongoing sexual harassment lawsuit....
