Originally releasing on the PlayStation 4 in 2016, The Tomorrow Children had a pretty rocky start. Unable to fully realise its potential as a free-to-play town-building, Soviet Union-themed, sandbox game, Sony shut down its servers a little over a year after its launch. However, having regained the rights to the IP at the end of 2021, developer Q-Games set about relaunching The Tomorrow Children, thus giving the game a second chance....

There’s no doubt these are good-looking boards, with a fetching blue and yellow colour scheme that Akko says is designed to offer a view similar to that of a rising sun over the sea, hence the ‘Horizon’ moniker. (If you prefer something a bit different, there are gorgeous ‘Silent’ and ‘9009 Retro’ colourways available too.) That’s reflected with the PBT keycaps that the 3087 features, which offer a better feel and significantly better durability than standard ABS keys....

So, to be clear, it’s a video game based on the game in the movie. Not on the movie itself. Or on the newer movies, or the Jumanji video game in those. Got it? Work is underway for PC and Nintendo Switch at Marmalade Game Studio, a small outfit which has previously converted more traditional board games like Monopoly and Cluedo. Will it turn out any good? It’s hard to say from the above footage - though the idea of a faithful Jumanji game is an intriguing one....

Last week, there was a gentle ‘whoopee’ from certain pause-starved corners of the internet when one enterprising modder, going by the name TechieW, introduced the feature to Elden Ring on PC via his unfussily titled Pause the Game mod. Now though, YouTuber IronPineapple has spotted a quirk in Elden Ring’s code that enables players on all platforms to temporarily halt the game in its tracks without the aid of a mod - helpfully also meaning PC players will no longer have to disable online play in order to avoid the swift splat of FromSoftware’s undoubtedly ornate ban hammer if they want to pause....

Twitch Charity will allow streamers to select a charity, set a fundraising goal and collect donations from within the creator dashboard. Twitch does not take a cut of donations or receive any tax incentives. The US-only closed beta is available now for selected streamers and for a limited number of charities, with the aim to roll it out globally across the platform soon. Twitch has partnered with PayPal Giving Fund for the tool to accurately track donations and send to a streamer’s chosen cause with proof of receipt....

As just one of the many announcements to have come out of last night’s Ubisoft Forward, Ubisoft is offering players the chance to “play your favourite franchises, challenge yourself and your friends or create new worlds on PC with Ubisoft+, including new releases on day one and premium editions DLC”. There are two tiers; you can either limit your access to PC, where you get 30 days to try its library, premium editions, and 100+ games, or you can go for “multi access” which offers the same but also the option to play on Google Stadia via cloud gaming, too....

Despite saying the system would use an “energy-efficient technology… a million times less energy than a bitcoin transaction”, fans still criticised Ubisoft’s focus on and championing of a technology they claimed was unnecessary and speculative. Now, two of the faces behind Ubisoft’s big NFT push have been interviewed by Australian financial site Finder, and said that fans just did not “get it”. Specifically, fans were said not to understand the upsides to reselling digital items - whereas Ubisoft was simply getting in early on a “paradigm shift in gaming”....

As reported by Axios, there’s been a wave of resignation from the company over the past 18 months at all levels of the business. A range of reasons have been cited for departures, including low pay, competitive opportunities elsewhere, frustration at the company’s creative direction, and unease at its handling of workplace misconduct. In a tweet from PlayStation, that also comes with a colourful teaser, the company revealed that Stray will be coming to consoles this summer. Previously we had been given an “early 2022” window but, given that we are now into Q2 and not been told a more concrete date, this new timeframe isn’t exactly a surprise. Along with Stray, We are OFK will also be releasing this summer. Meanwhile Cult of the Lamb, which was previously only slated for a release “later this year” will be coming our way this autumn....

Valheim has, of course, been a blistering success for the five-person studio; the game managed to shift an impressive 1m copies in its first week and, now, six weeks on, there’s still no sign of those numbers slowing any time soon. “We are very honoured to have gotten the opportunity to take part in several interviews, from podcasts and gaming newslets to Swedish television!,” Iron Gate said of its success in a new post....

We’ve already seen a fair amount of Steam Deck in the run up to its release - including a peek at its innards and the categorisation system Valve is employing so purchasers know exactly what is and isn’t compatible with their new device on Steam - but the company’s latest update is all about what’s on the outside. Specifically, the various bits of packaging Steam Deck will come in. First, there’s the cardboard box itself, a snug bit of packaging that keeps unused space to a minimum....

Game operator Monumental said this was because it didn’t have the headspace or resources to rethink the game while it was running it, and suggested Crowfall could return looking quite different indeed. If, that is, it returns. Crowfall has struggled since launch, and it was sold to Monumental in December 2021 partly because of this - because it needed significant change. Now, Youtube channel 64 Bits has released a demake video of what Elden Ring would look like on a SNES. Spoiler: it looks fantastic. Of course, it takes a top-down viewpoint akin to classic RPGs (the video notes Secret of Mana, Terranigma, and Final Fantasy 6 as inspiration), with a cute little Tarnished defeating various iconic bosses with melee weapons and magic. For the world map, though, the video shows off some nostalgic Mode 7 3D graphic effects before transporting down into specific areas and dungeons....
